The S. Spitz company was founded in Linz in 1857 by Salomon Spitz; in 1935, the production site was moved from Linz to Attnang-Puchheim. After World War II, the company changed ownership and continuously expanded its product range. The distribution of spirits and fruit juices was extended throughout Austria. In 2007, the company celebrated its 150th anniversary.

The farewell to Spitz Schankrum in 2008 simultaneously marked the birth of Spitz Doppelschankrum - the original times two. With 45 percent alcohol by volume, Spitz Doppelschankrum not only has double the alcohol content but also double the aroma.

The term "Doppelschankrum" refers to a double-distilled rum, meaning that the rum undergoes two distillation processes to obtain a refined and smooth character. This process removes impurities and creates a more concentrated and flavorful spirit. "Inländer Rum" is a term used for domestically produced rum in Austria. It distinguishes Austrian rums from imported rums from other countries.
