The name Roe & Co harks back to George Roe, once a world-renowned whiskey distiller who, in the 19th century, played a crucial role in ensuring that Irish whiskey experienced a truly golden age. However, the George Roe and Co distillery was not only Ireland's largest whiskey exporter but also the direct neighbor of the Guinness brewery, the other major player in Dublin's historic brewery and distillery district. Due to Prohibition in America and cheaper competition from Scotland, the traditional distillery had to close in 1926. The only relics of the historic site are St. Patrick's Tower and the pear tree growing at its base – both symbols that are incorporated into Roe & Co to tell the moving story of George Roe. Roe & Co Irish Whiskey consists of a hand-selected combination of Irish malt and grain whiskeys by Master Blender Caroline Martin – matured in bourbon casks, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 45% ABV, which certainly makes it an interesting specimen among whiskeys. The elegant blend possesses the typical smoothness of an Irish whiskey while also offering surprising depth of flavor. The high proportion of first-fill casks gives it a note of creamy vanilla, balanced by fruity nuances and light spice aromas.
