As the name suggests, the special feature of this Macallan whisky lies in its maturation process. The fresh distillate is aged in European sherry casks, American sherry casks, and American bourbon casks. This allows the wood of European red oak and American white oak to influence the fresh distillate, as do the previously stored spirits, sherry and bourbon.
