Not quite as "nice" as Pig's Nose Whisky, Flaming Pig Whiskey's name literally translates to "flaming pig." No pigs are harmed in its production, however. The name harks back to the Great Whiskey Fire of 1875, when approximately 5,000 barrels went up in flames and flowed down the streets of Dublin. It is reported that the screams of a pig roused the sleeping inhabitants, who then brought themselves and their animals to safety.

The Flaming Pig brand was launched in 2014 by Joey Shore and Flor Prendergast, the owners of Malones Whiskey Company. Naturally, they chose the legendary Liberties district as their location, where the fire once raged.

Flaming Pig Black Cask Whiskey is created by blending Irish single malt and single grain whiskey. The finishing takes place in first-fill bourbon barrels that have been intensely charred beforehand. The charred wood gives the whiskey the desired smoky and caramel notes that make it so special.
