Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët in Épernay, France, Moët & Chandon has grown to become a leading name in the champagne market. Jean-Remy Moët, a descendant of the founder, acquired the former Hautvillers Abbey in 1794, where the monk Dom Pérignon developed his groundbreaking champagne production techniques. This was a crucial step that further solidified the quality and reputation of Moët & Chandon.

The connection to historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte, a close friend of Jean-Remy Moët, helped to make the champagne known on international campaigns and increased its popularity worldwide. Moët & Chandon always remained based in Épernay and became synonymous with high-quality champagne.

1987 marked another milestone when Moët Hennessy merged with Louis Vuitton to form the luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, which is now known worldwide for its exclusive products.
