Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, the GlenDronach distillery has a long tradition in whisky production. The GlenDronach Port Wood Single Malt Scotch Whisky was inspired by the historical importation of Port wine in casks to Scotland in the 19th century. In the 1800s, Port wine was of great importance in Scotland, especially for the Scottish aristocracy. The finest Port wines traveled along the Douro River from Portugal to Scotland, profoundly shaping the whisky tradition.

The GlenDronach Port Wood initially matures in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks before undergoing additional maturation in Port wine casks that previously held the finest Port wine for three years. This whisky is neither chill-filtered nor treated with additional colorants, preserving its natural purity and deep, fruity aromatic diversity.
