Description
Yeun Elez is a peated Breton whisky distilled from peated (50 ppm) malted barley from Scotland. The name "Yeun Elez" comes from an old peat bog in the heart of the Armorique Regional Natural Park, also home to many Breton legends (like that of Tadic Coz, also depicted on the label). Located in the Monts d'Arrée in the heart of the Armorique Regional Natural Park, Yeun Elez is a swamp considered in Breton legends to be the gateway to hell. According to Anatole le Braz's legend, it is the place where evil souls who have haunted the living were cast into hell. Tadic-Coz knew the secret and the ritual to enclose the souls of spirits in the body of a black dog. He instructed young Jobic to lead the dog to the gates of the underworld. So, he went from presbytery to presbytery, leading the black dog to the rector of Commana. At sunset, they jointly cast the black dog into the Yeun Elez swamp, condemning the spirit to hell. "We are entering the Yeun Elez, he said to Jobic. Whatever you hear, don’t look away. It is about your life in this world and your salvation in the next." - A. Le Braz, La Légende de la mort en Basse-Bretagne, 1893
