Unofficially, distillation has been taking place at the Ardbeg Distillery since 1794 – in 1815, the distillery was purchased by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg.

"Ardbeg" comes from Gaelic and translates to "small hill."

The distillery is located on the south coast of the Islay whisky region.

This Ardbeg whisky is named after a very remote and solitary area with the cape "Mull of Oa," which extends as a headland along the island.

What makes this whisky special is definitely its maturation before blending.

The whiskies it contains are aged in sweet PX sherry casks, spicy virgin oak casks, and American oak casks.
