The Masahiro Distillery was founded in 1883 by Shobun Higa, whose father Shozoku Higa was the master chef of the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom.

With the help of Shozoku Higa's reputation and connections, the distillery received a license to produce the traditional Okinawan spirit "awamori" and has since established itself as one of Okinawa's oldest and largest distilleries.

Shozoku's passion for cooking is still reflected today in the corporate philosophy of the Masahiro Distillery, which produces only the finest spirits.

Masahiro Pure Malt Whisky is a blended malt that matures for more than three years in old sherry butt and bourbon casks, and then receives at least half a year of maturation in Jack Daniel's First Fill Bourbon casks.
