Laphroaig is a whisky distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory group. The distillery buildings are listed in the Scottish heritage register. In the production of Laphroaig, barley malt is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, which is only found on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour.

The Laphroaig 33 Years Old is a limited edition dedicated to Ian Hunter. Ian Hunter ran the distillery from 1908 to 1944; he is the last descendant of the Johnston family. Each new "Ian Hunter" bottling contains a booklet with another chapter of the distillery's history.

The "The Ian Hunter Story Book 3" edition is aged for 33 years in ex-Bourbon oak casks.
