The Masahiro Distillery was founded in 1883 by Shobun Higa, whose father, Shozoku Higa, was the master chef of the old Ryukyu Kingdom.

With the help of Shozoku Higa's reputation and connections, the distillery obtained the license to produce the traditional Okinawan spirit "awamori" and has since established itself as one of Okinawa's oldest and largest distilleries.

Shozoku's passion for cooking is still reflected today in the corporate philosophy of the Masahiro Distillery, which produces only the finest spirits.

The Masahiro 12 Years Old is distilled from 100% malted barley. This whisky spends over 11 years in ex-bourbon hogshead casks made of American oak and matures for another 12 months in Oloroso sherry casks.
