The Nagahama Distillery was founded in 2016 and is the smallest distillery in Japan. It is located on the shores of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, also known as "Mother Lake". The large volume of water in the lake moderates the climate, which is very good for whisky maturation.

The Amahagan blended whiskies take their name directly from the Nagahama Distillery. This is because the word "Nagahama" spelled backwards is "Amahagan".

The Amahagan World Malt Whisky Edition No.1 is the first blended whisky in this series.

The carefully selected whiskies, sourced from overseas, are blended with fine Nagahama newmake and matured in the Far Eastern climate. The strong temperature difference creates a special kind of maturation, which is why the series is called World Malts.

Production takes place in Japan's smallest stills. Distillation is carried out in a pot still called "aranbic", which has an Arabic appearance.
