The Nagahama Distillery was founded in 2016 and is the smallest distillery in Japan. It is located on the shores of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, also known as "Mother Lake". The large volume of water in the lake moderates the climate, which is very good for whisky maturation.

The Amahagan blended whiskies take their name directly from the Nagahama Distillery, as the word "Nagahama" spelled backward is "Amahagan".

The Amahagan World Malt Whisky Edition No.5 is the fifth blended whisky in this series.

Carefully selected whiskies sourced from overseas are blended with fine Nagahama new make and mature in the Far Eastern climate. The significant temperature difference creates a special type of maturation, leading to the series being called World Malts.

Production takes place in Japan's smallest pot stills. Distillation is carried out in a still called "aranbic", which has an Arabic appearance. This whisky receives a Sherry Cask finish at the end.
