The Balvenie 15 Years Old Madeira Cask Finish is a 15-year-old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, which deliberately highlights the influence of different cask types. For this bottling, Balvenie’s long-standing Malt Master, David C. Stewart, initially selected American oak casks for the primary maturation. The single malt was then given an additional finish in ex-Madeira wine casks. These casks had previously held the characteristic fortified wine from the Portuguese island of Madeira and lend the matured whisky additional fruity and spicy notes. The combination of American oak and Madeira casks underscores Balvenie’s long-standing expertise in different cask maturations.


The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown is one of Speyside’s most traditional distilleries and is particularly renowned for its in-depth exploration of the influence of different oak casks. David C. Stewart conducted extensive research into Madeira and the historical maturation of the wines produced there before this type of cask was used for the secondary maturation of selected Balvenie whiskies. In the Balvenie 15 Years Madeira Cask Finish, a full age statement of 15 years is combined with the additional character imparted by the former sweet wine casks. With an alcohol content of 43 per cent, a 0.7-litre bottle and the accompanying gift box, this edition is aimed particularly at connoisseurs of fruit-forward Speyside single malts and exceptional wine cask finishes.
