Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward set out to bring the tradition of single malt whisky distillation back to Glasgow and founded "The Glasgow Distillery Company Ltd". This name pays tribute to one of Scotland's first licensed distilleries, established as early as 1770. Operating under various names over the years, the original Glasgow Distillery Company produced a variety of whiskies, including unpeated, peated, and triple-distilled single malt, until its closure in 1902.

With the founding of the new distillery, their mission to firmly re-establish the production of high-quality spirits in Glasgow now begins.

1770 Glasgow The Original Single Malt symbolizes the starting point of whisky production at The Glasgow Distillery. It combines the finest Concerto malted barley with pure water from Loch Katrine. After a minimum of 72 hours of fermentation and a particularly slow distillation, this whisky first matures in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks and is then refined in new American oak casks. Bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered, and in natural color, The Original reflects the craftsmanship and commitment to quality of The Glasgow Distillery.
