Unofficially, distillation has been taking place at the Ardbeg Distillery since 1794 – in 1815, the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg.

"Ardbeg" comes from Gaelic and translates to "small hill."

The distillery is located on the south coast of the Islay whisky region.

This Ardbeg matures for 21 years. It is a unique Uigeadail. The maturation took place in Oloroso sherry casks, which previously contained Glenmorangie Original, and subsequently produced Glenmorangie Lasanta. Three years later, Ardbeg Uigeadail was released. Cask 1565 was so impressive that it was set aside for an exceptionally long maturation and subsequently bottled for this single cask whisky.
