The idea for Gray Whale Gin came during a camping trip to Big Sur. The makers were impressed by California's breathtaking beauty. In the turquoise sea, they saw a gray whale with its calf – thus the idea for producing this gin. In 2016, the Golden State Distillery was founded.

The gin is distilled 7 times from a corn base to guarantee a high-quality product. Selected botanicals are used, which come either from sustainable farms or from wild collections.

The sun-dried plants are weighed, inspected, and poured directly into the still to release their unique aroma. To protect the fresh citrus and pine needles, they are placed in a bag that is carefully fastened above the copper stills. Botanical distillation is the final step in the process.
