The inspiration for the name of Desmond's Lime Juice was fleet surgeon Sir Thomas Desmond Gimlette.
In 1879, he joined the Royal Navy and, at sea, invented one of the world's most famous cocktails: the Gimlet.
The cocktail consists of half gin and half lime juice and contains enough vitamin C to protect sailors from scurvy on long voyages.
Since alcohol acted as a preventative against bad moods on board, he prescribed his drink twice a day.
