The history of SeRum dates back to the 19th century. At that time, the Panama Canal was being built. Due to the harsh working conditions and the outbreak of malaria, many Cubans and people living in the Caribbean died.

Cuban women added dried fruits and spices to their old Panamanian spirits to create a kind of energy drink that was supposed to give the men strength.

Later, these spirits were also administered for snakebites and malaria, because a healing effect was believed; hence the name 'SeRum'.

SeRum Puente Centenario was named after the gigantic bridge over the Panama Canal, which reconnects South and Central America.
