Description
Founded in 1743 by Claude Moët in Épernay, France, Moët & Chandon has become a leading name in the champagne market. Jean-Remy Moët, a descendant of the founder, acquired the former Hautvillers Abbey in 1794, where the monk Dom Pérignon developed his groundbreaking champagne production techniques. This was a decisive step that further solidified the quality and reputation of Moët & Chandon.
The connection to historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, a close friend of Jean-Remy Moët, helped to make the champagne known on international campaigns and increased its popularity worldwide. Moët & Chandon always remained based in Épernay and became synonymous with high-quality champagne.
1987 marked another milestone when Moët Hennessy merged with Louis Vuitton to form the luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, which is now known worldwide for its exclusive products.
Moët & Chandon Réserve Impérial Brut, which was unavailable in Europe for a long time, is one of the most exclusive champagnes due to its rarity. This high-quality champagne is characterized by a significant proportion of reserve wines, which gives it remarkable complexity and distinct maturity. It consists of a carefully balanced composition of 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 30% Pinot Meunier. After the maturation phase, the champagne is bottled and sealed with a natural cork.
Madame de Pompadour once captured the essence of champagne when she said, "Champagne is the only wine in the world that makes every woman beautiful."
