Description
Description
Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt whisky distillery located on the historic Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow, in the Scottish Lowlands. After the conversion of the former farm into a distillery and bonded warehouse, it commenced operations in August 2018. John Campbell, the former manager of Laphroaig Distillery, took over its management. The farm, where the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784, not only provides a historical backdrop but also the barley for whisky production. In addition, the water needed for production is sourced from local limestone springs, enabling complete traceability of the production process.
The distillery produces Seasonal Releases, with particular emphasis on Laureate barley sown in spring, which is used for the whisky. The single malt whisky produced in this way matures in first-fill bourbon barrels and is bottled without chill filtration and without the addition of colouring.
