Matthew Gloag, the founder's grandson with the same name, took over the family business 96 years after its founding in 1800.
A year later, he created a new blend, which he named "The Grouse Brand" (Grouse = moorhen), expecting many hunters to stop in Perth during the hunting season.
His daughter designed the appropriate label featuring the Scottish national bird.
The whisky immediately sold so well that within just a few years, "The Famous" was added to the name, and "Brand" was simply dropped. And so the popular whisky is still called today: The Famous Grouse.
The Famous Grouse RUBY CASK Whisky belongs to The Famous Grouse Cask Series. Different types of casks are used to create gentle blends with a unique character.
This whisky is aged in casks seasoned with Port wine, developing a rich sweetness.
