The Umathum winery is located in Burgenland, on Lake Neusiedl. In addition to authentic red wines, the winery also produces exciting white wines. However, over 85% of the cultivation of the more than 33-hectare vineyards is reserved for red wine. Very important and well-known hillside vineyards include Haideboden, Vom Stein, Kirschgarten, and Ried Hallebühl. All vineyards are located around Lake Neusiedl. The single-vineyard wines do not leave the winery until after a 3-year aging period and are then offered for sale.

The Haideboden, originally spelled with an "A", encompasses the area around the pilgrimage site of Frauenkirchen. The designation Haideboden was first used for this wine in 1991. The grapes for the Cuvée come from vineyards west of Frauenkirchen and consist of the Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and Cabernet Franc varieties.

The grapes for the Umathum Haideboden Cuvée thrive on quartz-containing gravel soil, which gives the wine its characteristic minerality. After gentle fermentation, the wine is stored unfiltered for two winters in small oak barrels to develop its complex aromas. Bottling takes place in bottles sealed with a natural cork, which preserves the authentic taste and allows for a storage period of up to 20 years.
