The Winkler-Hermaden winery, idyllically located on the Kapfensteiner Kogel in southeastern Styria, extends over 40 hectares of vineyards. Georg Winkler-Hermaden took over the management from his father Burkhardt in 1977, expanding the estate from its original 4 to 38 hectares. Since 1986, he has managed the winery together with his wife Margot. In 2009, the entire agricultural area was converted to organic farming, which increased biodiversity and improved wine quality. In addition, the 80 hectares of family-owned forest have provided enough oak wood for 30 years to age the wine in wooden barrels.

The Winkler-Hermaden winery presents "Olivin," an outstanding red wine made from the Blauer Zweigelt grape variety. These grapes grow on lime-free loose sediment-brown earth soil with surrounding volcanic material, which gives the wine its special character. It is particularly noteworthy that the oak trees for the barriques, in which the wine matures, also grow on the same soils, in the same climate, and on the Kapfensteiner Kogel.

After a one-month mash fermentation, the Olivin matures for 24 months in 300-liter barriques made from Kapfenstein oak. After careful maturation, the wine is bottled and sealed with natural corks. The "Olivin" has a storage potential until 2036, during which it fully develops its aromas.



For over 30 years, "Olivin" has been one of the best red wines in Styria, which underlines its outstanding quality and consistency.
