Description
Description
Bere Barley is one of the oldest and most resilient barley varieties in Great Britain. Its cultivation requires extraordinary effort and patience to unlock the full potential of this traditional grain and appreciate its unique characteristics.
Bruichladdich Bere Barley 10 Years Old is a unique single malt whisky made from 100% Bere Barley, an ancient Scottish grain cultivated by the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College. This whisky, distilled in 2013, represents the expression of a single vintage and has been matured for 10 years.
The maturation process took place in a combination of first-fill Bourbon casks (80%) and second-fill Pauillac wine casks (20%), resulting in a remarkably complex flavour. The barley used comes from the farms of Weyland and Watersfield, Muddisdale and Quoyberstane, as well as St. Ola, Westermill and The Northfield in Burray – all ideal growing regions for this special grain.
