With the Askeim 8 y.o., Smögen ventures into a new brand that aims to revive the long-forgotten flavors of classic barley varieties. At its core is the philosophy of prioritizing taste and character over yield and production costs. The distillery uses lower-yielding but more flavorful grain varieties, which are distinguished by their individuality and give the Askeim brand a distinctive identity.

The first Askeim bottling is based on the lightly peated Golden Promise barley variety, a variety that particularly shaped whisky production in the 1970s. Today, Golden Promise is primarily used in the production of full-bodied British ales and has largely been replaced in the whisky industry by higher-yielding varieties. With this bottling, Smögen deliberately harks back to this traditional barley, preserving a piece of whisky history that should appeal to connoisseurs and lovers of classic flavors.
