The history of Smirnoff Vodka began in 1910 when Vladimir Smirnov took over the distillery after the death of his father, Pyotr Smirnov. However, the October Revolution marked a drastic turning point, as the distillery was confiscated by the government and the family was forced to flee to Constantinople. There, Vladimir managed to build a new distillery and resume production.

Four years later, the family moved to Lviv, where they continued their business. In 1925, the spelling of the name was officially changed to "Smirnoff," a step that facilitated international market access. By the end of the 1930s, Smirnoff began exporting to numerous European countries, and the brand's recognition grew steadily.
