The company founder Don Andrés Brugal Montaner left his homeland Spain to seek fortune in the Caribbean. After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he moved to the Dominican Republic around 1855, specifically to Puerto Plata. In this city, Brugal rums still mature today. After a few years, he developed his own manufacturing process there, ensuring consistent quality of the rums. This process remains a well-kept secret to this day, now passed down from generation to generation.

Brugal Leyenda Cognac is an exquisite premium rum from the Dominican Republic, reflecting the Brugal family's centuries-old expertise. Maturation first takes place in former Bourbon barrels made of American oak, giving the rum a soft vanilla and caramel note.
