Description
The Gérard Bertrand An 940 Chardonnay 2024 is a noble French white wine from the Languedoc, whose name pays historical homage. As early as around 940, the first traces of the Langue d’Oc can be found in literary texts such as the poem La passion de Clermont. Later, it developed into the Occitan language with great cultural significance, which was spread throughout Europe in the Middle Ages by the troubadour movement. This cultural richness is also reflected in the Languedoc's wine tradition, which Gérard Bertrand continues today with modern and sustainable methods.
The grapes for this Chardonnay are harvested at night to preserve their freshness. After gentle pressing in a pneumatic press, cold static pre-clarification follows. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks; a portion of the must is aged in barriques to gain additional complexity. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately avoided to maintain vibrancy and freshness. After light fining, the wine is bottled. With an alcohol content of 13.5% Vol., the An 940 Chardonnay combines freshness, elegance, and finesse and is an impressive expression of modern Languedoc.
