The Hillinger HILL 1 2020 14% Vol. 1.5 l is the first great premium wine from the Leo Hillinger winery and has set a trendsetting benchmark in Burgenland winemaking since its introduction. This cuvée of Merlot, Blaufränkisch, and Zweigelt comes from selected sites with deep, mineral-rich soils, which offer optimal conditions for powerful, long-lasting red wines. The vinification includes careful manual processing, followed by extensive aging: 24 months in new French oak, then 3–5 years in new and used barriques, before the wine matures further in magnum bottles. This combination of long barrel aging and large bottle volume significantly contributes to its density, structure, and impressive depth of development. The dry vinification, precise blending, and high aging potential of 10 years and beyond underscore its position as the winery's flagship wine.


The 2020 vintage impressively demonstrates the combination of grape variety diversity, terroir, and ambitious cellar work.
