Description
The Marchesi Antinori Castello della Sala Pinot Nero 2023 is an expressive Italian quality red wine that impressively demonstrates the potential Pinot Nero can unleash in Central Italy. Produced by the traditional house of Marchesi Antinori at the historic Castello della Sala, this wine comes from Umbria, near the border with Tuscany and about 18 kilometers from Orvieto. The medieval castle is surrounded by extensive lands, with vineyards located at altitudes between 220 and 470 meters.
Although Castello della Sala is traditionally known for its great white wines, Pinot Nero finds exceptional conditions here. The vines grow on limestone and clay soils, interspersed with fossilized shells and sandy Pliocene sediments. Particularly the parcels located above 400 meters benefit from pronounced day-night temperature differences, which promote freshness, elegance, and precision. To protect the sensitive grapes from intense summer sun, the shoots are deliberately left long and bent over the vines, so that the foliage provides natural shade. The wine has been vinified exclusively from Pinot Nero since 1990 and is considered the red counterpart to the legendary Cervaro della Sala.
With 13.5% vol. alcohol, the 2023 vintage shows itself to be balanced, finely structured, and terroir-driven. Bottled in a 0.75-liter bottle, this Pinot Nero stands for elegance, origin, and precise style.
