Faer Isles Hvonn Akvavit is a distinctive Nordic spirit from the Faroe Islands, whose recipe is closely linked to the flora and the maritime environment of the North Atlantic. The akvavit is produced by the Faer Isles Distillery in Vestmanna, which operates in small batches and places particular emphasis on regional botanicals in its spirits. At the heart of Hvonn Akvavit is angelica, which grows wild on the islands and is known as ‘Hvonn’ in Faroese. Both the root and the stem of the angelica are used in the production process. Whilst the root contributes finely spiced and aniseed-like notes, the stem imparts a greener and fresher herbal aroma.


The angelica is complemented by hand-picked seaweed, which further emphasises the connection to the coastal landscape of the Faroe Islands and adds subtle maritime notes.
