Niepoort’s Fabelhaft Douro Tinto 2022 is a dry Portuguese red wine from the Douro DOC, combining the characteristic style of this traditional wine-growing region with remarkable approachability. The blend features classic indigenous grape varieties of the Douro, including Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarela. The vines grow on the schist soils typical of the Douro, which form an important part of the terroir. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are destemmed and fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. During the subsequent ageing process, the use of oak is deliberately restrained: part of the wine is aged in used French barriques, whilst the remainder remains in stainless steel tanks. This allows the Niepoort Fabelhaft Tinto to retain its youthful and fresh character.

Dirk van der Niepoort conceived the Fabelhaft Tinto as an uncomplicated, versatile Douro red wine that is not only reserved for special occasions but is equally suited as a high-quality everyday wine. The 2022 vintage represents a balanced blend of terroir, structure and drinking pleasure. The label is also highly recognisable, drawing on motifs from the picture stories of Wilhelm Busch. Presented in a generous 1.5-litre magnum bottle, the Fabelhaft Douro Tinto 2022, with an alcohol content of 12.5 per cent, is particularly well suited for sharing over meals, at family gatherings or on convivial evenings.
