Don Papa GAYUMA Rum 40% is an exceptional limited edition from Don Papa; its name, ‘Gayuma’, roughly translates as ‘love potion’. This release is designed as a tribute to the shamans and mystical rituals surrounding Mount Kanlaon on the Philippine island of Negros, the region closely linked to the origins of the Don Papa brand. For this special edition, the rum is first aged for three years in ex-bourbon casks, allowing it to develop a smooth base profile as well as characteristic notes of vanilla and oak. This is followed by an elaborate double finish, which gives the Gayuma a distinctly unique character within the Don Papa range.

In the first stage of the finish, the Don Papa Gayuma spends a further six months in heavily toasted Rioja wine casks, which impart additional fruity, spicy and toasty notes. This is followed by a final three-month maturation in oak casks that previously contained smoky Islay malt whisky. This final stage of maturation imparts a subtle note of peat and smoke, which blends with vanilla, orange peel, cocoa and spices. With an alcohol content of 40 per cent and a bottle size of 0.7 litres, this limited edition is aimed particularly at lovers of whisky-cask-finished rum who appreciate smoky and spicy cask notes alongside sweet, fruity elements.
