As with all bottlings from the distillery, the barley is dried over peat fires, giving the whisky its distinctive smoky character. The clear water of the nearby Kilbride Stream is used for distillation, which has been part of the production of this legendary Peated Scotch Whisky for generations.


The special feature of this Laphroaig PX Cask Whisky lies in its elaborate Triple Maturation. First, the whisky matures in ex-Bourbon casks made of American oak, which produce classic notes of vanilla and oak. Afterwards, the whisky is transferred to traditional Quarter Casks made of white oak, smaller 19th-century style casks that allow for more intense maturation due to a larger wood surface and give the Islay Single Malt a particularly velvety texture. The whisky gains its final character through its refinement in Pedro Ximénez Sherry Butts, which develops additional aromas of dried fruits and a pleasant sweetness. This combination ensures a multi-layered balance of smoke, fruit and spicy depth.
