The Bunnahabhain Distillery, located on the picturesque coast of the Isle of Islay, was founded in 1881 and is known for its unique, unpeated whiskies. The distillery was originally dependent on sea trade and reached a turning point in 1960 with the construction of a new road, which improved logistics. After a brief closure in the 1930s and the last ship arrival in 1993, the road became the main supply route. In 2006, after being acquired by Burn Stewart Distillers, the brand profile underwent a modern redesign. The water for the whiskies comes from calcareous springs and is routed to the distillery without contact with peat, which gives the whiskies their mild, characteristic taste.
