Description
Huckleberry Gin is a premium German gin whose story began in 2017 when Max Elsholtz and Jens Lauckner shared a gin and tonic. The idea was to develop a gin that would complement the juniper notes – which were often very dominant at the time – with a fruitier character. Together with friends, they came up with the name, label and flavour profile, making friendship a central part of the brand right from the start. A family-run distillery in the Black Forest, now in its third generation, was brought on board for production. There, Huckleberry Gin is produced using a total of 22 botanicals and is triple-distilled. Today, the brand is backed by Finest Beverages GmbH, which continues to uphold the original concept centred on friendship and shared enjoyment.
The botanical base consists of juniper berries, angelica root, coriander seeds, ginger, cinnamon and lavender, complemented by lemon peel, elderflower, hop cones, peppermint and raspberries. However, the characteristic signature botanical is fresh blueberries, which are added during the final stage of distillation. They give the gin its distinctly recognisable yet natural-tasting berry aroma. At the same time, they explain the name, as ‘Huckleberry’ refers to American wild blueberries. At 44% ABV in the 0.5-litre bottle, Huckleberry Gin combines fruity blueberry and citrus notes with classic juniper and a finely balanced blend of herbs, spices and flowers. The triple distillation process results in a modern, berry-infused gin with a distinctive character.
