In the picturesque landscape of Riegersburg in Styria, Alois Gölles, a third-generation farmer, runs the traditional family fruit-growing business. After graduating from the renowned Federal Institute for Viticulture and Pomology in Klosterneuburg, he dedicated himself to refining his parents' harvest of apples, pears, plums, and peaches. He began distilling fine brandies in 1979, followed by the establishment of his manufactory for high-quality vinegar in 1984. Today, the product range includes around twenty fine brandies and just as many types of vinegar, which regularly receive recognition.

The "Ron Johan Rum" stands out due to its unique origin: it is distilled in Styria, with the molasses needed for production sourced from Brazil, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic. Another striking feature of this rum is the bottle label, which depicts the pirate Blackbeard and the Austrian Archduke Johann. The rum is also dedicated to the latter, which gives it a special cultural and historical dimension.

Ron Johan Dark Rum, distilled from sugarcane molasses of various origins such as Brazil, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic, is characterized by its dark color, aromatic depth, and smoothness. Produced in Styria since 2012, it matures in a combination of new and used American white oak and ex-bourbon barrels.
