Togouchi is produced by Chugoku Jozo, a distillery located in the town of Togouchi in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The distillery is situated in a natural cave system, originally constructed as a railway tunnel, but later transformed into an ideal environment for whisky maturation. The cool, damp conditions within the tunnels provide an optimal climate for aging whisky, resulting in a product rich in flavor and character.

Disused railway tunnels are used as "cellars" for aging Togouchi whiskies. The temperature in the Togouchi tunnel, which is 362 meters long, is a constant 15 degrees Celsius, while the temperature at the main headquarters in Hatsukaichi City is slightly higher. According to the distillery, not all Japanese people appreciate the taste of peat, so imported Scotch whiskies are blended into a harmonious, balanced, and mild pure malt.
