The Amahagan World Malt Whisky Edition No. 1 is the first World Blended Malt Whisky in the Amahagan range and is available at 47 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle, complete with a gift box. This edition comes from the Nagahama Distillery in Japan, which began whisky production in 2016 on the site of the Nagahama Roman Brewery, founded back in 1996. For the Amahagan World Malts, carefully selected malt whiskies from overseas are combined with distillate from Nagahama and then further matured in Japan. As a result, this edition combines international malt whisky components with the distinctive character of the small Japanese distillery, forming the starting point for the experimental Amahagan series.


The Nagahama Distillery also has a number of distinctive features in terms of production techniques. Distillation takes place in exceptionally compact stills, which are known as Arabic Pot Stills due to their characteristic shape, reminiscent of traditional Arabic stills. Added to this are Japan’s climatic conditions, with marked temperature variations, which influence the interaction between the whisky and the cask during maturation. Amahagan Edition No. 1 forgoes any additional wine or special wood finish, thereby placing the focus on the fundamental style of the World Malt series. Fruity, malty and chocolatey notes combine to create a distinctive Japanese-influenced World Malt whisky.
