Symbolically, the word ‘Aikan’ – which means ‘wedding’ in the language of the indigenous people of Martinique, the Arawak – embodies precisely this aspiration.

The whisky first spends three years in Scotland, where it matures in a cool, temperate climate. It is then transferred to the Caribbean island of Martinique for a further year, where it undergoes secondary maturation in a former rum cask from the French Antilles. This two-stage ageing process in two completely different climate zones fosters a complex interplay of aromas and results in a rich, multi-layered flavour profile.

This transcontinental maturation, which harnesses the differences in temperature and environment, produces a whisky that captures the essence of both worlds and unites them in a harmonious yet complex product.
