The American Single Malt Whiskey Commission's definition:

Made from 100% malted barley. Distilled at one distillery. Mashed, distilled, and matured in the USA. Matured in oak barrels (not exceeding 700 liters). Distilled at no more than 160 proof/80% ABV. Bottled at 80 proof/40% ABV or more.

Westward Whiskey's response and interpretation:

Take two-row barley, grown and malted in the Northwest. Every drop comes from the distillery in Portland, Oregon. Mashed, distilled, and matured in the heart of the American Northwest. Matured in new American, lightly charred, 53-gallon oak barrels. Distilled at approx. 142 proof/71% ABV. Bottled at 90 proof/45% ABV.

The Westward Belgian Ardennes is made with an Ardennes farmhouse yeast. This yeast was named after the Belgian Ardennes forest. The whiskey is matured in virgin American oaks.

The bottling is neither chill-filtered nor colored.
