In 1851, Charles Heidsieck took the step of founding his own champagne house: Charles Heidsieck Champagne. Within a very short time, he made a name for himself with his exceptional wines.

For the maturation and storage of his champagnes, he used historical, underground chalk cellars in the French city of Reims. These unique cellars are now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Due to the high humidity and the darkness prevailing there, the chalk cellars prove to be an excellent place for the maturation of Heidsieck champagnes.

To enhance quality, the grape juices come from the first pressing, and the champagne thus benefits from a slow and long maturation of 3 to 4 years.
