This rum is characterized by the unique climatic conditions of Nicaragua, a Central American country. It is produced by Compania Licorera de Nicaragua, which has been based in Managua since 1890. However, the actual distillery is not located in Managua, but near the sugar factory in Chichigalpa, about 120 kilometers away.

The rum's name comes from the small island of Zapatera in Lake Cocibolca in Nicaragua, which gives it a special identity.

Zapatera Rum is aged in 200-liter American white oak barrels, which gives it a rich range of aromas and a balanced flavor structure.
