The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, still preserves many traditional methods in its production process today. For example, the barley is still grown on-site, and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor – a rarity in the modern whisky industry. Additionally, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers responsible for maintaining and repairing the casks to ensure optimal quality throughout the maturation process.

The Balvenie STORIES bottlings are based on stories passed down from generation to generation. To create The Balvenie A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores, Malt Master David C. Stewart and the entire whisky team gathered in Balvenie's Sample Room. Inspired by John Barrett's idea to incorporate Caroni rum into the production process, a larger quantity of this rare rum was ordered and stored.

Five years later, Malt Master Stewart decided to mature Balvenie whisky in casks that previously held Caroni rum. The result is a unique Caroni cask finish that has never been experienced in this form before.
