Founded in 1798, the Tobermory Distillery is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries, located in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Since its establishment, it has experienced turbulent times with many changes of ownership and production stoppages. In 1993, Burn Stewart Distillers took over the distillery, which was then acquired by the South African Distell Group in 2013. In March 2017, production was halted again for refurbishment work. Despite these challenges, Tobermory remains an important part of Scotland's whisky tradition.

The Tobermory Distillery plans to resume production in summer 2019 after a two-year hiatus and is celebrating this event with the new Tobermory 12 Year Old. During the closure period, Tobermory restructured its product range and carried out renovations and conversions.

In addition to expanding the product range to include gin, the new Tobermory 12 Year Old was also developed, which is intended to become the distillery's new flagship product. These measures are not only intended to increase production capacities but also to improve the quality and variety of the products offered.
