As of 2024, the Plantation brand by Maison Ferrand will be renamed Planteray. This decision reflects the company's commitment to demonstrating sensitivity and respect for historical contexts, particularly with regard to issues such as racial equality, equity, and diversity.

The name change aims to make the brand image more modern and cosmopolitan. "Planteray" combines "Plant" for sugarcane and "Ray" for sunbeams that support the growth of sugarcane, thus aiming to create a positive association without historical burdens. Despite the name change, the taste and production process of the rums remain unchanged.

The rum is produced at the Rum & Co. of Fiji Distillery from molasses and ferments for 4 to 5 days. After distillation in column stills, it matures for 4 years in bourbon barrels (200 l) in the country of origin. It then receives a 5-month finish in Ferrand barrels (350 l) and matures for another 7 months in coffee liqueur barrels, which gives it special coffee aromas.
