Description
Description
The Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt distillery located on Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands. The former farm was converted into a distillery with a bonded warehouse before operations began in August 2018. The operation is managed by John Campbell, former manager of Laphroaig Distillery, and is family-owned. The farm, where Scottish poet Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784, uses self-grown and harvested barley as well as water from limestone springs beneath the distillery. This allows for continuous traceability of production.
The Lochlea Ploughing Edition 2nd Crop, matured in ex-Laphroaig casks previously used for Laphroaig 10 Years Old, combines typical fruit and grain notes with a hint of Islay. This edition, matured longer and exclusively in fresh Islay casks rather than Quarter Casks, marks a significant developmental step compared to the first batch. It is the last in a series that completes the 2nd Crop Set with the Sowing, Harvest, and Fallow editions.
