Since 1601, non-guild craftsmen in parts of Altona enjoyed special religious and trade freedoms. This area, known as "Freiheit" (Freedom), gave rise to the legendary streets "Große Freiheit" (Great Freedom) and "Kleine Freiheit" (Little Freedom) in Hamburg's St. Pauli as early as the 17th century. Inspired by this historical tradition, a special tribute to the city of Hamburg was created in the form of a unique gin.

For its production, in addition to Tuscan juniper, caraway, anise, fennel, dill, and lemons were macerated to give the gin a distinctive and unmistakable character. As part of an elaborate filtration process, five special types of pepper were also extracted and then carefully distilled. As a grand finale, the gin matured for a "sinful" night in old aquavit oak barrels before being bottled in the characteristic Gin Sul bottle, reminiscent of traditional apothecary bottles.
