Description
The iconic brand Redbreast, originally produced by the Jameson Distillery for the Gilbey's company since 1939, has a long and fascinating history. Originally, Gilbey's aged the whiskey in its own casks, which gave Redbreast its unique character. This whiskey belongs to the rare category of Single Pot Still whiskey, a distinct type alongside Blended and Single Malt whiskeys.
This special method of whiskey production originated in Ireland in the 19th century, when a way was sought to circumvent the high taxes on malt. It uses a mixture of malted and unmalted barley, which gives the whiskey its unmistakable depth and complexity. After Gilbey's ceased production in 1985, Redbreast also temporarily disappeared from the market. However, the brand returned and developed into one of the most popular Irish whiskeys.
The 18-year-old Redbreast is a masterful creation that bridges the gap between the 15-year-old and 21-year-old Redbreast. It matures in a carefully balanced combination of Bourbon casks, Cream Sherry casks, and Ruby Port wine casks. This blend gives it a complex aroma that harmoniously combines notes of vanilla, dried fruits, and spices. Redbreast 18 is a true delight for connoisseurs who appreciate the full, rich taste of a traditional Irish whiskey.
